So do you concede that Global Warming is occurring but that the popular
press make a pigs ear of reporting on it? I can agree with that view.

Insulating buildings better. Turning the air conditioning a few degrees
warmer in summer and cooler in winter. Had Californians been willing to
do make this compromise they would have averted the rolling power cuts.
My experience in the US is that airconditioned buildings are kept too
cold in summer, and too hot & stuffy in winter.
Designing cars that are more efficient than the very first original Ford
(~20mpg?). Average Japanese and European cars typically manage 40mpg
now. Some of the best aerodynamic saloon cars will now do >55mpg
cruising at an optimum speed of 75mph.
Contrast this with US vehicles where massive SUVs, ugly boxes on wheels
that barely do 15mpg and roll over going round corners are the mainstay.
OTOH with Brent Crude now over $55/barrel and going higher every day
eventually even the US will be forced to face the need for energy
efficiency.
Longer term we need to be building nuclear power plants again. At
present they are the only realistic bulk power generation technology we
have that does not emit CO2. Nuclear fusion is still too far off.
