The notion of statistical "dependence" formulated largely by Lehmann in
1967 clarifies some of these things even though it is still in
Mainstream statistics including conditional probability-statistics.
Take a look at "dependence," "statistical dependence", "dependence
versus independence" and similar topics as keywords on the internet.
When F(x, y) is greater than or equal to FX(x)FY(y), Lehmann refers to
"positive quadrant dependence" as long as it holds for all x, y.
Negative quadrant dependence is similarly defined but with less than or
equal.
