When I was cleaning a food court we put a little sodium hypochlorite, I
think it was, in the water. And I could put my dry hand in it and rub my
fingers together, and feel the friction of clean skin against skin give
way to a slippery film. Caustic, indeed.

Ivory has the only liquid hand soap I've been able to find that doesn't
have triclosan in it. Since childhood I've never used antibacterial soaps
(I don't think they had them in those days), and I was seldom ill. And
I've read of recent research that shows there's no advantage to it for
every day use. What's important is simply that you wash hands, which
physically removes bacteria. And still they're putting triclosan in
cosmetics, toothpaste, and everything else, as if they think evolution is
a myth.
