The main problem with this approach is that one would have to modify
a fair number of news servers. One could, however, put an
automoderator on the newsgroup somewhat a la talk.origins, but
even there, one runs into issues; how does one ensure that a
missive originally posted at 11:59 PM is correctly handled?

I would hope that all news servers above a certain level participate
in NTP but it's not a requirement.

And of course someone would have to maintain the automoderator.

(BTW: today's answer is 2.8 * 10^30 kg. :-) Guess the question.)
