Re: Punching

Rich--

Lift your back foot slighty if you wish for a right handed front
punch--if your second attack is with a front kick with the back foot,
leave it up--if your second attack is with the left hand front punch,
then get the back right foot back on the ground pronto.

Success is not determined by by max power but by necessary power on the
proper target area--some punches are used as setup blows to stun,
confuse and cause your opponnent to hesitate enough so that you can
place a killer blow.

jf Frazir is correct about the skull and brain mass if your desire is
to KO the attacker. Many people have expressed a varieties of
ideas--the book answer to your original question ie Max power--is
probably to raise the back foot slightly, but not to the extreme.
Karate is never a one punch game--its a quick string of punches that
cause pain. Three 95% power punches are far more effective than one
100% power punch.

Presumeably you are paying someone to teach you--someone that knows
what they're doing (although some dojos are a waste of money.) What
does your instructor say?

In sum: Physics is but one piece of the puzzle--and max power is
over-rated. If you can kick and punch and make your gia snap like
cracking a damp towel, then you've got enough speed and power. Focus on
target area and rapid multiple attacks--unless of course you feel
comfortable on the ground in pain while your mind keeps saying "..but
Physics says I should have won."

Good Luck
