That was sort of my point. Significant digits are a crucial
portion of science. If you don't pay close attention to the
accuracy of a physical quantity, then your results are wrong.
It does not matter whether you report the correct number or
not, if you can't tell how accurate it is, it's wrong.

Your understanding of science is about at a grade 6 level.
About that of a twelve year old.

that involves taking the difference of two numbers. And let us
suppose we are trying to do this calculation on a computer.
And let us suppose that the two numbers are

and

but that the particular numerical representation on the computer
is only able to hold 8 significant digits.

What will be the result?
