W. Nahm's Conformal Field Theory: A Bridge Over Troubled Waters

I just posted this about 5 minutes ago but it didn't appear, so I'll
just mention that an excellent paper to read is W. Nahm's "Conformal
field theory: a bridge over troubled waters," which you can access
under its title as keywords on the internet or at
www.th.physik.uni-bonn.de/th/People/werner/. The paper doesn't give
its date, but its last reference is from 1999. The paper is essentially
the story of Walter Thirring, now listed on the internet as of 2004 as
Professor Emeritus of Theoretical Physics at the University of Vienna.
The paper also discusses many key aspects of string theory and many
people who were also discussed by T. Y. Cao (1997) - but Nahm (of U.
Bonn) is much clearer and focused than Cao, although perhaps Cao tried
to cover too many topics.
