That's a pretty ignorant way to look at it. The landing sites were
chosen partially for their safety during landing, but also for what
were judged their likelyhood of having valuable geology. If the Moon's
surface had been dismissed by geologists as being essentially the same
everywhere, then the crews probably have all landed within a few miles
of each other, instead of the hundreds of miles which they actually
were.
