Reason for high presssure in air liquifier

Why do air liquifaction plants use such high pressure (200-300 bar)?
Is this an issue of more volume required for using lower pressure
compressors? In other words, would a air compressor (~150 psi) work to
liquify air, albeit a much smaller amount? Thanks.
