Dirk,
There is no math God. Math is a language, just like any other. It is
the technical language of logic. Its words, symbols and signs are
abstractions and approximations of reality, not the essence of it. Just
as "cat, or "flower" don't refer to any Platonic essential model, of
which all manifestations are imperfect copies, so too are the symbols
of math generally accepted concepts, which are subject to evolution and
re-interpretation and refinement over the years, not essential models
of reality.
Consider 1+1=2. Now say I was to take two sets of apples, one with
five apples and one with four and I add them together. I have one set
of nine apples. So, from this perspective, 1+1=1. What if I were really
to add all these apples together, would I have nine apples, or would I
have a jar of apple sauce? Now you can say that I'm not using these
terms properly, or at least as they are generally understood. What if I
was to pull out a cookbook and look up chocolate chip cookies. It would
say something like; Add one cup flour, two eggs, cup milk, cup chips,
etc. and stir. What do I have? One bowl of cookie dough. Alright, cooks
are not smart enough to be mathematicians, what do they know. How about
building a car, start with the frame, add wheels and engine, etc. You
have one car. I suppose engineers aren't smart enough to be
mathmeticians either.
Simply because you will not think outside whatever box you have
yourself in doesn't amount to an argument. Yes, I used the English
language in order to make the argument as to why it causes problems to
describe time as a dimension.
Now I'm really going to give you the opportunity to shoot me down and
post this as a topic.
