Yes, unfortunately physicists define time as what they read
on a clock. If he wants something more "profound", he will
have to go to some sort of armchair philosophy newsgroup
where people are less hindered by knowledge of physics.
I have though of pointing him to some other newsgroup a
few times, but I didn't want to insult him :-)
