Here is a list of some of my favorite programs.
They can be download from the Internet and most are free.
Please let me know if you know of better ones than these,
or good programs for other purposes.
WinPatrol - Protects you from changes to your "registry", "services",
home page, file associations, browser, startup programs, etc.
TurboLaunch - You can drag your frequently used programs, files, and
directories
onto this program, and it creates a menu of icons that you can click on
to
activate the program, load the file, or jump to the directory.
5D PDF - Creates PDF files via the print command.
I use this to print web pages to PDF rather than saving them as HTML or
MHT files,
as it is faster and doesn't load my browser.
KeyNote - A nice outline program.
Skype - make phone calls all over the world for $.02 per minute.
Google Earth - zoom in on any place on the Earth's surface.
You can download "kmz" files from user groups that zooms in
on all the ships in the Navy, famous places in history,
all the battles of WWII, the Civil War, etc. and all kinds of
interesting places. You can search on terms such as
"Taco Bell" and zoom in on all the Taco Bells in any area.
WWeb - fast, small, handy dictionary with synonyms, etc.
TaskInfo - shows what your cpu is doing,
and lets you control the programs.
Plots data in and out (Internet),
what programs and files are active, etc.
WinM8 - Powerful, fast way to store, arrange and access information.
The nice feature is that you can drag the data around to arrange it.
Total recorder - record any sound you can hear on your computer.
Irfanview - small, fast, useful graphics editor/screen capture,
and batch renaming, resizing, adjusting pictures.
hotpixelkiller - patches digital camera pictures for bad pixels in your
camera.
Avant - the best web browser. Easy to use and has many useful features.
TrustyFiles - finds and downloads free songs, movies, programs, etc.
WebReaper - save compete web sites to view offline.
glclip - Stores the clips sent to the Clipboard
in separate, tiny, windows for copying/saving/reviewing.
Can also accumulate a batch of clips into one window or file.
FileTargets - A "Context Menu" program
that lets you copy or move the files and directories
you right click on, to the places you have set up.
I use it to move files to various places I set up such as
audio, video, text, DOC, PDF, HTML, etc.
NetAnts - A good download program.
Batch download can download all the files
or all of the files of any of any type you choose.
Telescope - Searches several search sites,
and Google etc. can't track your searching habits.
WorldTime - shows times of the places you select.
Media Player Classic - Best video player for movies like avi, mpeg, rm
and mov.
Good for DVDs too, but not the best.
Also displays any video input such as web cams and cameras and TV
boards.
Microsoft PhotoStory - use to make pictures into DVDs and videos.
You can pan and zoom on still pictures and create "movies".
InfoNymph - You can drag and drop files such as text, graphics, URLs,
and video into this "outline" program
and save it, outline it, organize it, and password protect your work.
In other words, if you had a batch of
files that you didn't want anyone to see, you could drag them into this
program, organize and password protect the data.
A neat feature is that when you view your secret info, the program
removes all temporary files and records.
The program has built-in viewers for several file types, and you can
load in URLs and click on them to access web pages.
A powerful program. I store all of my email, passwords, financial data,
etc. with this.
Yahoo Desktop Search - Scans your computer and lets you do an instant
search to find and view
files with the search words you use. Basically it "Googles" your
computer. Google has a similar program,
but I think the Yahoo program is better. Built-in viewers for DOC, PDF,
spreadsheets, pictures, etc.
CDBank - reads in and catalogs the directories of your disk drives,
CDs, DVDs, etc.
Many programs do this, but this is the only one I know that lets you
get to the English on Chinese disks.
I use this to catalog hundreds of Cds of music, data, programs, etc.
ABC Amber Outlook Express Converter - reads the email and articles from
your active and old
outlook express files, and saves them to many file types such as DOC,
PDF, HTML, etc.
You can read all the email off your old disk drives, and save it in a
convenient form
for viewing and searching.
Oxygen Phone Manager - exchange data such as calls, numbers, SMS, ring
tones, etc. with your cell phone.
Convenient for entering a list of phone numbers into your cell phone,
and saving call records.
Can move data between SIM card and phone memory. For example, you could
read data off old SIM cards,
consolidate the data, and put it on the active SIM card and/or phone
memory.
Or you might want to move some numbers and data from the SIM card to
the phone memory,
or from memory to SIM card if you loan your phone less SIM card.
Burning Studio - Fast, easy to use program to burn CDs and DVDs
OverDisk - Scans a disk and presents a clear chart of the files on the
disk.
It displays directory and file names, and sizes as you move around the
chart,
and you can click anytime to jump to and explore and delete large,
useless files and directories.
Use to clean the junk from your disk drives.
Isobuster - Use to examine and copy the files on CDs and DVDs that you
cannot ordinarily see.
Remove - A fast uninstaller.
My Uninstaller - Slow, but provides details on the programs you might
consider uninstalling.
AppMove - Use to move an application to another drive. ( C: to D:, etc.
)
I use to clean up drive C: when it gets too crowded.
Flexible Renamer - great rename program. Renames pictures to
the time and date taken and MP3 files to song name automatically, etc.
AVG7 - a fast, free, antivirus program.
Zone Alarm - a free firewall.
Waterfall - saves power, and extends the life of your CPU
by slowing it down and keeping it cool.
wmffix_hexblog14 - Use to patch the WMF hole.
Hopefully I won't get flamed for sharing my favorite programs
with my favorite group of guys. ;-)
