Simple math with weird physical meaning - all because speed of light is
the same in all reference frames. Weird.
But I'm not sure that the automata based on 4D volumes would not
account for the bending of light.
Imagine a tesselation of cubes. Consider that all the cubes have equal
4D volume, except for particular region where 4D volume increases like
a bell cure - basically a cluster where 4D density increases smoothly.
Something like an approximately ball shaped cluster.
Light still wants to take the shortest path. It would have to go around
the ball because there is less volume to pass through. If it goes
straight through the ball it is taking a longer route because there is
more volume.
