How do you recognize an appropriate USB port on the back of a pc?

Would this USB device work with any product that requires USB?

On a desktop PC it would look like this..

or more likely with the slot horizontal...

or perhaps two sockets stacked close together.

The same socket is used for USB 1 and USB 2 - just the speeds are different.
USB 2 is much faster. Not all computers have both.
