If there is more than one explanation, and you choose one, and call it
fact, Descartes would say you are merely deluding yourself, that is not
science.
You can say well Occam's razor dictates that this is the simplest
explanation therefore it must be correct and again, you are merely
deluding yourself because really you don't know. You can't be sure and
when you are not sure, then you are not really persuing scientific
facts and in time, you will end up once again, in the real of fantasy
and made up superstitious nonsense and you probbaly won't even
recognize it as such, you will just like everyone before you, call it
fact, and then go further to persecute those who don't agree with you.
