Boltzmann equaton for swarming insects.

I posted this query on sci.math but got no answer. Would it be
fruitful to model the swarming flights of birds/insects by appropriate
modifications to the Boltzmann eqation? The analogy to the molecular
collision frequency might depend on a short range equivalent to a
repulsive force, which would serve to eliminate actual collisions, and
long range "attractive" force serving to keep the objects confined to a
finite volume. Thanks, cfe
