We'll you stirred my juices... space is a player in GTR and its
not static or absolute.
As you said, "Other than that time is what they read on a clock, you
won't get
much more interesting from physicists, although this definition
brings along some pretty spectacular results all by itself."
I assume you will agree that space is what they measure with a ruler.
My problem with geometry is that it never incorporated the zero. The
zero point is a virtual one, not an actual zero. In math, if you add a
multiple of zero, the answer is zero, but in geometry, points, lines
and planes can have a zero dimension. This isn't a real zero, but a
virtual 1. A real zero in geometry would be empty space. Therefore the
ruler defines space, it doesn't create it.
All motion, energy etc. presumably exists within a larger equilibrium
of balanced opposing elements, matter/anti-matter, etc. What would be a
better description of the apparent median and medium of this
equilibrium than empty space? Yes our ability to measure it is
relatively curved, but other forces ultimately curve it back the other
way and in sum total, space is Euclidian/flat, according to COBE. Space
is the absolute.
Why do these posts keep cross posting with the relativity group?
