You asked: Why is space observed to be geometrically flat ?

WMAP has determined that our universe has no center of gravity,
which, in General_Relativity's terms, means that 4D spacetime is flat.
This is only true on cosmic scales, not locally.

Adding a fifth spatial dimension, cosmic-time,
is needed to model the constant acceleration in the expansion/cooling
of 4D spacetime... because entropy consumes gravity.

Cosmically, much is known a priori, so, I posit,
time is pseudo-directional and randomness is always pseudo-random.

13.7 billion years ago the observable universe was Planck length wide
and was Planck temperature and Planck density,
but nature isn't limited by our ability to observe it.

The Lambda_CDM model is the most viable theory we have today,
and it says that this universe has be expanding according to GR's lambda.

Lambda, the cosmological constant, has been constant for
at least the last 8 billion years, and, probably, always.

The alternate theory, that our universe arose from a sub-Planck anomoly
doesn't make sense as it would only last sub-Planck time, not eons.

Temperature/Entropy are the measures of the distribution of kinetic energy
in a unit of spacetime.

I posit that Temperature/Entropy is the fifth _Spatial_ dimension
because no spacetime unit lacks a _Local_ temperature/density,
just as no place lacks a _Local_ time.

You can imagine 5D Temperature_Time_Space as a 2D plane,
with temperature/entropy on one axis and 4D spacetime on the other.

The standard model of cosmology, Lambda_CDM, _Requires_ a fifth dimension
because the geometry of 5D Temperature_Time_Space is hyperbolic,
like a 2D hyperbola or a 3D horn with, I posit,
an infinitely long mouthpiece and flange.

Temperature is relativistic, for example,
the temperature of a cosmic ray is it's kinetic energy.

Our universe is probably going from infinite density/heat
to infinite vacuity/coldness... and here we sit in the middle of that,
at a temperature/density where life/water exists,
....with the sun orbiting us, the center of _Our_ universe... ha ha.

Gravitomagnatism and frame dragging,
....if sped up to near the speed of light in a thought_Experiment...,
looks a lot like electromagnatism.

So there you have it, where gravity came from... and where it's going.
None chose to be born, and the more you consume the faster your are consumed,
....like a lit match... worse than a monkey's uncle.
This is why many fear Einstein more than Darwin.
