If *you* (as in the scientist) could publish a piece of work which
revolutionised (insert field of study here), then *you* would jump at the
chance. This is true for every scientist I have ever met. It continually
amazes me how this newsgroup can always have threads about "conspiracies"
keeping the secret knowledge hidden..... As if!

Indeed - can you imaagine WHY they would want to keep knowledge hidden?
Largely, any stories of suppression are more to do with wasting time
with directions that are plainly absurd. Plus of course, any respected
scientific theory that seems deeply entranched is *ripe* for potshots
at it by people (as evolution, BB, GR, plate tectonics....).

If you truly have the answer - share it. Let the world know. If it is
true, you will survive the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.

If someone was to ask me who inspires me as a scientist, it would be
Tesla - as a good example and a terrible warning. His work with AC is
remarkable and he is largely revered in Electrical engineering - but
his later work degenerated in crank science. Its a warning to us all
who want to push back the frontiers of knowledge. Sometimes those ideas
that seem alien or unreal are TRULY crap.

The greatest enemy of science is psuedoscience.

Jaffa cakes. Sweet delicious orangey jaffa goodness, and an abject lesson why
parroting information from the web will not teach you cosmology.
