Hi:

Why is deuterium-tritium fusion preferable to deuterium-deuterium
fusion?

If deuterium-deuterium fusion can be used, why go through the effort to
make tritium?

Deuterium is so plentiful and tritium is so scarce.

One advantage of tritium is that the increased mass means that the repulsive
force of repelling charges has less acceleration, so it is possible to get
nuclear interactions with lower initial speeds.

I would also imagine that tritium has a greater collision cross section.
