Having followed these forums for a few months now, it appears to me that
"crackpots" and "cranks" are people that are unable to find the errors
in their own logic.
Just my humble observation.

When a contradiction is pointed out to the likes of Seto, Tomgee,
etc.--from their perspective, it is the physics and the physics
education that is wrong.

I suspect that such "cranks" failed to properly learn in a formal
physics class sometime in their lives... and that, instead of
accepting their failure, they conclude it is the system of physics
that is wrong and they, being oh so smart, will show the rest of
us!

Postings of "crackpots" and "cranks" offer an opportunity to
address misconceptions in physics to a USENET audience... from
which, some readers do benefit.
