How do you explain polarization, then?

If you don't know anything about polarization, you would have fun
learning about it. Experiment! You can find a lot of stuff at home:

LCD displays (found on watches, calculators, etc.)
Polarized sunglasses (make sure they're not just regular sunglasses)
The sky
Reflections off windows

And when you understand that, try:

Cellophane (not plastic wrap)
Plastic after being stretched
Corn syrup
