As can be seen from the news,
the European Union is giving Galileo the credit he deserves
for discovering the "Galileo Effect" by naming
their "GPS" system after him
Many things affect the observed period of a clock.
Some of these are:
Acceleration - Galileo effect
Distance - Hubble effect
Velocity - Doppler effect
Pressure - Piezo effect
Temperature - Temperature effect
Silliness - Potter effect.
