What does Harvard's firing its anti-Terrorist President have to do with
Conformity? It's quite simple. Jobs and Terror have been the two
main problems worrying the USA public for the last 10 years or so.
The Democrats chose Jobs as their single campaign issue, while the
Republicans chose Terror or rather its opposition. Nobody thought of
choosing both - that would be too intellectual. Academia, of all
places, turned out to be the main champion of Democrats' Jobs view and
opponents of Republicans Anti-Terror view. The Humanities and Social
and Behavioral and Life Science Departments led this battle, and at
Harvard they combined to overcome any hesitation that the Physical
Science or Mathematics Departments may have had and forming an almost
totally Conformist anti-Bush alliance. The President of Harvard
attacked Terror, so he had to go. Never mind that he was interested in
Jobs too.
