Re: Grass fires and global warming

After the Second World War, there was a huge surge in carbon
dioxide emissions, yet global temperatures fell for four decades
after 1940.

1940 + 40 = 1980. Exactly in this time people drasticly reduced SO2 content.

Atmospheric levels of CO2 have been as high as 2450 ppm, compared
to the approximately 300 - 400 ppm over the past 100 years or so.
These high readings occurred during the time of intense
volcanism. No discernable up-tick in global temperature levels
seem to have followed these HUGE increases in atmospheric CO2.
Why?

SO2 is a nuclei for clouds. Volcanoes are good source of SO2.

Warming ocean water has less capacity for absorbing these gases.
Is there any correlation?

I may be biased in my positron on these matters. I worked for
years with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), supporting
the National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Our aircraft flew over the Atlantic, releasing dropsonde devices
for measuring atmospheric parameters.

I don't remember any of these NOAA weather scientists saying that
atmospheric gases such as N2O, CO2, CH4, etc, played any part in
the observed global warming that we were monitoring.

Is SO2 in that "etc"?

One thing that did cause some serious concern was the amount of Sahara
Desert dust in the atmosphere above the Atlantic and over the
eastern part of the U.S.A. The concern was that the Aswan Dam and
irrigation system might influence the Sahara climate, and perhaps
cause the whole area to revert to a less desert state. This might
drastically reduce the amount of atmospheric dust particles
around which water begins to nucleate, producing rain throughout
the eastern U.S.A.

I have talking about SO2 everywhere but up to now I have only one support:

I am not meteorologist. But I have seen that over the past 20 years our
plants are not such healthy as before. I connect it with the lowering SO2
content in the air. As you know Poland is close to huge Western Industry
and
winds are mainly from west. So we were continously supplied with SO2.
Gardening was one pleasure (all kinds of plants were healthy without
chemicals). Next you start lowering SO2. Now only grass and some
berries.
SO2 is also a nuclei for clouds. Have you made a good job?

Witaj Szczepan Bialek--I agree that SO2 is the culprit. In fact this
is what the GCM (computer models of global warming) say is the reason
Poland and all of Europe has greater global warming--the SO2 used to
block the sun in the past (after WWII), so it was cooler, but now with
less SO2 from Western Europe temperatures (especially nighttime
temperatures) are greater."
