In the old days of Fidonet, CompuServe, The Source, Delphi, Genie,
AOL and Prodigy, and the early days of the Internet,
the news groups were very civil and useful.
You could post a question in a newsgroup,
and within hours you had several civilized, on-target
answers to your question.
No insults, no smart ass remarks,
no references to useless web sites,
no references to useless publications,
no nominations for dubious kook awards,
just plain, useful, on-target feedback.
No renaming subject lines "[name inserted] Sewage".
Potter, meet kettle.
Do you enjoy doing what you condemn?
Do you justify it by saying "But they started it!" ?
As the old saying goes:
"The only way evil can succeed is for good people to do nothing."
I am not the only person who has an issue with Art Deco
and other sociopaths and war instigators.
I am one of the few who tries to take a stand against
sociopathic behavior in sci.physics.
I have no problem with sociopaths getting together
remote from civilized folks, and raging against the "Machine",
and folks they envy and hate.
It is interesting to see that after a Muslim or Christian bashing
thread goes on for scores of posts, and someone takes
an opposing view, that the person is "Jimmy Cartered",
and sometimes nominated for dubious awards,
in order to silence them.
I have tried,
and am trying all the things I can think of to
prevent a few sociopaths from turning the newsgroups
into "Rivers of ***".
I have tried to engage them in debates on the issues,
tried to point out that their behavior is not civilized,
tried to shame them, tried to insult them,
tried to get them to quit hiding behind anonymity,
tried to call attention to their inane and sociopathic posts, etc.
Here's what I am now suggesting,
As rats, roaches, criminals, sociopaths, and other vermin
fear exposure and tend to fade away when exposed to light,
here's what could be done to prevent Art Deco and about ten other sociopaths
from turning your newsgroup into a "River of ***".
1. Post their real names, addresses and employers on the Internet.
2. Post their pictures and other personal data on the Internet.
3. Report them to their ISP and Google
4. Sue them in local Small Claims courts
5. Report them to law enforcement when they commit crimes such as forging
users names, etc.
If you have any ideas how to do this,
I'd like to hear them.
I will be looking forward to reading PD's suggestions
on how to prevent Art Deco, Puddleduck and about five other sociopaths
from turning sci.physics into a "River of ***",
and for his support in calling attention
to threads that try to instigate hate for Muslims and Christians,
and to con American Blacks, Latinos and Rednecks
into sacrificing their lives, limbs, liberties and fortunes
to kill Muslims.
