killing inertia

I am looking for data the layman can understand regarding the
increased likelihood of fatality in a collision as regards speed.
Would you have any links or simple formula that one could use to graph
a curve? Example hitting a bridge abutment in an automobile at 1mph or
100mph... are the collision forces linear?
