For readers really interested in physics and not the crackpost and
clueless posts that infest sci.physics, you may just want to take a
look at sci.physics.research (a moderated newsgroup). It represents
the level of informed discussion that took place on sci.physics maybe
12 years ago...

Just a suggestion, since some readers may not be aware that
sci.physics.research even exists.

Sci.pysics remains the preferred newsgroup for you to post questions
on elementary physics, but the noise level in sci.physics largely
obscures the serious physics questions from real students and others
interested in the physical science.

Harry C.

p.s., Back around 1995 there was a proposal for the creation of a
moderated newsgroup to be called sci.physics.moderated. Does any
reader know what happened to that proposal? It would seem to me that
there is a demand for moderated physics newsgroup conducted at a less
than research level of discussion is needed today. (The reason why it
must be moderated is illustrated by what has happened to sci.physics.)
It seems sad that those seriously interested in basic physics have no
place to turn to in order to have simple questions and fundamental
concepts expained to them (Newton, basic elecricity and magnetism,
light and optics, introductory classical mechanics, etc.) by people
who have studied and frequently teach these subject. A place to
discuss the subject matter taught in highschool, or in undergraduate
college physics. That is, the basis of physics.

Check out sci.physics.foundations. The signal to noise is much better.
Dan Thomas

Except that the important signal is filtered out with noise by the very
moderators.

It is no winning situation.

Babys are constatnly thrown out with the bathwater.
