Quantum Gravity 159.3: Alain Connes Derives C + H Where H Quaternions

Ali H. Chemseddine of American U. Beirut Lebanon and Alain Connes of
College De France (currently visitng Vanderbilt U. USA) in "A dress
for SM the beggar," has just appeared on arXiv (I forgot to write down
its reference details), and in it they actually prove that with their
other machinery the "choice" of algebra C + H + M_3(C) (where H is
algebra of quaternions, C complex numbers/variables) is actually
required, that is to say follows directly, in their noncommutative
geometry approach to unification of all fundamental interactions.
The paper is also exceptionally clear regarding the various axioms and
empirical data used as input in their approach.
