What do you mean by "culture"?

He means the way concepts are phrased, unusual terminology, favorite
(or least favorite topics) - that sort of thing.

In some fields of chemistry, every other word is an abbreviation,
understood by experts in that particular field, but generally not
understood by other chemists. If you continually write out "lowest
unocccupied molecular orbital" instead of LUMO, your paper would look
peculiar.

If your paper covers work that was already done by someone else 30
years ago, it won't get published. In fact, the strongest criticism a
reviewer can make of your submission is that it isn't new. There is no
remedy for this. If they merely say you are a moron, and can't write a
sentence in English to save your soul, all you need to do is re-write
your sentences in English, and you are good to go :-)

The format for a scientific paper (even within specific fileds) is
very rigid, and if you don't follow it, they will send your paper back
to you and tell you to format it properly for itt to be even
considered.


Also, no journal published failure. If you tried a technique to make
compound A, and it didn't work, they won't publish that.

Be sure to reference the literature. Einstein in 1905 could get away
with no references, but it is highly un likely to work now.
