Say a single strand weighs about 0.5 mg- ballpark estimate, because the hair is dehydrated. Say it's 100% carbon (it's not, but the point is...)

10 strands = 5 mg. 0.56 carats = 112 mg. Therefore, the scheme is yet another way to fleece idiots, like the "laser comb"
