sending something into orbit

Hello, my question is not about serious science, but it is a genuine
curiosity of mine.

Would a bullet shot from the hight of the highest weather balloon be
able to escape the Earth's atmosphere and enter orbit?

How could one, practically (short of building a rocket), put something
(anything) into orbit?
