I love you guys, I wrote my first novel because of you. There are so
many ways to 'see' what we call 'reality' and testing, modeling and
abstractions are only parts of the joys we have at hand.
When I was in college some forty years ago I had an instructor
who told us about a group of people, I want to say 'aboriginal
tribe' but that is most probably a misnomer due to the fading
effects of memory. Be that as it may, it was a characteristic of
this group's language to refer to 'distance' in terms of sound level.
Thus, if you were some distance 'away' you would be 'quiet'
away--your sound level quieter. If you were close in proximity,
you would be considered to be 'loud' away--your voice and
sounds would be louder. Counterintutive to us, but I always
remembered the illustration.
And so it goes--the interpretation of what we can 'see', (or regarding
the above, hear) relies on our personal, group or societal acceptances,
(prejudices) ... from my perspective, you are both correct ... that is,
allowing for your personal indescretions. ;-)

But there's only one scientific method and, until a better method
comes along (doubtful), it's all we have to truly understand the
natural world. Anything else is fantasy.
Well, Igor, there are other 'methods' to understanding the natural world,
but that is the topic of another NG post, like sci.anthropolgy perhaps.
