It is very much akin to when physicists invented the atomic bomb and
scientists had fears that the explosion might spread to non-
radioactive materials or might set the atmosphere on fire and burn the
whole earth to a cinder! Needless to say, they just went ahead and
set it off anyway! Brrrrr!

Yep, and to the chagrin of the moron doom-sayers, nothing happened.

Chagrin? You mean more like "relief" isn't it? Of course if the
"moron" doom-sayers turned out correct, NOBODY would be calling ANYONE
a "moron" now, would they?

Hey! I've got this great revolver. It's a 44 magnum, the most powerful
handgun in the world that can blow your head clean off!!! And I have
one bullet for it. I have just the game for all you guys with big
balls to play. So, do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

By the way that is an "ethical" question. Is it ethical for a
physicist(s) to endanger all life on the planet with extreme
experiments with unknown outcomes? I'd say it's one thing to try your
"invention" on yourself, and quite another to try it on the entire
planet.
