Hi all,
I recently read in a book that december 22 is the shortest day in a
year, to what extent this is true..???
1) is there any scientific basis for this claim ?
The earth rotates at a more or less constant rate so all days are roughly
the same length (24 hours).
The ratio of daylight to darkness does vary due to the earths tilt and where
on the earth you measure it. See what Sam wrote.
This also begs the question... How do you define day and night? If night
begins when the sun dips below the horizon then what about people who live
in a valley? Is their day shorter? Some degree of averaging needs to be
applied.
