Periodic motion towards a heat sink.

At its broadest, the word “ life ” means:
“ periodic motion towards a heat sink ”,
not “ self-replicating ( energy-consuming ) water ballons ”.

The sun is losing 5 megatons per second ( mostly photons )
into “ The Great Heat Sink in the Sky ” ( your term, Tom );
so ( as I see it ) it's more “ alive ” than the earth is.
