talk to people who readily believe in the Big Bang, dark matter,
Wimps, machoes, dark energy and other miracles.
Clearly, these are people who are too coldly objective (except of
course, for the Wimps and stuff) yet who prefer to believe that our
orderly universe 'just happened'. (Nothing good just happens). At the
same time, they are clearly too dull-witted to distinguishGodfrom
the religions they despise.

You have said it right.
It is pretty hard to have a god without a religion to go along with it.
They are generally pretty closely connected.
The word despise is an odd choice. Pity, sadness for inability to reason
or other concepts are accurate. Why despise something that is based
on something that does not exist?
