In physics forum they ban people forever. Why ban forever? Why not
give a person a second chance?

It's academia's way or the highway. Unfortunately academia has reached a
dead end. very few new discoveries will be made if academia doesn't start
listening to the laymen. It is the ones doing the banning that is
grevously
wrong.

What could the ignorant hope to contribute to a highly technical field?

Highly technical Bah! Academia would be no where if it was left to discover
it's own devices. "the ignorant" with big ideas and concepts outside the
norms of academia have been the major contributors of academia. Many
principles regarded as absolute were brought to academia by the self
educated. Many great inventors were self educated.

The mathematics you rely on for explanation is merely a form of
communication. what you are communicating is a event or series of events to
explain how the result came about from the series of events. 4 pages of
explanation to explain how to boil an egg?

The answer to your question is knowledge! That's all that "the ignorant"
have ever contributed to academia.

I should only hope that academia remember the time when they was "the
ignorant". In many ways they still are.
