Greg, while I was still an undergraduate at Drexel, I was taught by
geology profs noow ridiculous theories about the formation of the
Eastern mountain ranges. That was called the "Synclonic Theory", and
was prevalent until the evidence for tektonic plates emerged. Wow,
what a fight that was!
I suppose my simple point it that while I am a physicist, I have never
been given a physically credible explanation by geologist as to the
source of the deep oil deposits, and quite honestly trying to complate
how significant deposits of organic material could have even been
created at the depth now being drilled. Then too, I may be ignoring
the obvious scientific explanation. No, you really don't want to hear
my theory about the origin or organic life on earth.
Still, I will leave you with one question from a physicist, "Every
form of organic life known to exist on earth is based on carbon, so
where did that carbon originate?"
