A MIDCOURSE CORRECTION FOR AMERICA
Eighteen million men and women, all across America, have recently
voted for a qualified woman to be President. By doing so, those same
men and women, all across America, voted AGAINST Barack Obama to be
President. NOTHING that has happened this day—6/07/08—regardless of
any whoop-de-do—automatically changes the ideals of those eighteen
million men and women! Their gut feelings—when they went into those
voting booths—surely, helped to guide them in making their decisions.
Now, gut feelings should aid them in deciding WHERE their loyalties
should lie.
New candidates who vie for public office often play-up the fact that
they are political outsiders. There’s a very real, implied corrupting-
influence if an office holder is seen to be one of the political
insiders. Yet, the ‘power’ of being an incumbent favors having the
insiders get re elected. That’s in spite of the fact that those
insiders have been part and parcel to the implied corruption. These
days, corrupt dealings are largely accepted as… the way that things
are done in politics.
I was raised by a Southern Gentleman, to BE a Southern Gentleman.
Having good manners was stressed to me. All of my life I’ve willingly
embraced the virtues—not only of being a gentleman—but of abiding with
the associated formalities. PLAYING FAIR is a big part of being a
gentleman, as is respecting and protecting… the weaker sex.
All during the Democratic Party’s primaries, Hillary Clinton had to
take—without complaint—the many slights to her candidacy. Those were
made on a continual basis by: A biased media; their ideologically
screened pundits; the choose-the-candidate-that-WE-want democratic
party leadership; by Barack Obama, himself; and by his many selfish
endorsers. Clinton couldn’t defend herself… “like a man”, because she
isn’t a man. She knows that a successful nominee for President will
need to have ‘fair and balanced’ media coverage, if such person hopes
to have any chance of being elected. And she knows that only a
Democrat or Republican seems to have much chance of winning the
presidency.
Probably, Ron Paul is the most ideologically well-qualified man in
America to be President. When discussing the Washington scene, Paul
is quite open in placing-blame-where-blame-is-due. Effectively, Paul
is a lamb among wolves. Yet, because of his good character, he won’t
allow his simple, common sense principles to be compromised. Clinton,
on the other hand, is a diplomat. She knows that in order to gain…
power, she must be able to work with both friends and enemies alike.
Often, that means… (symbolically at least), sleeping with the enemy.
Today, Clinton said: “I will be on the FRONTLINES of democracy!” Last
Tuesday she said: “This is an important day for democracy!” Yet,
Hillary Clinton is urging those eighteen million men and women, all
across America, to disregard the win-at-any-cost, anti FAIR play, and
anti democracy tactics of the Obama campaign. All along, Clinton’s
plan “B” must have been: “If I don’t win, outright, (She DID, but
won’t fight for it…) I will just switch over to… ‘the enemy’—and all
of my supporters will follow along.”
I’m one of those (former) supporters of Hillary Clinton who won’t be
voting for ‘her choice’ for President. EACH of those eighteen million
men and women who voted for Clinton probably did so—ether because she
has executive experience; she’s the more mature and stable candidate;
or because they liked the wisdom of her various visions for America.
Folks, every one of those, and other, valid motives for your having
voted are still waiting to be served! NONE of you fine people should
automatically switch to the candidate of Clinton’s whim—unless your
own hopes and aspirations for America can be made closer to being a
reality! Believe me: “Voting for Barack Obama will doom the hopes of
the majority to have their situations get better… or, at least, not
get any worse.”
Essentially, the problems with our government are personnel issues.
We just keep “hiring” too many, egotistical and out-of-touch
politicians. Those need to be weeded out and/or fired. And… we’ve
allowed powerful business influences that use: Lobbying; “golf course”
and back-room deal making; and media advertising dollars to bias the
media, and to negatively sway the decisions that our government makes—
supposedly on our behalves. Our government should be an
approximation of a true democracy. But instead, it’s a closer
approximation of a dictatorship… run by selfish, big-business
interests.
The ‘threat’ to the USA by having Obama be elected President probably
won’t result from anything that Obama, himself, does. Instead, his
election just gives the all-clear to continue business-as-usual in
Washington. That means group-against-group, party-against-party, and
class-against-class fights. The REAL threat to the USA that could
bring on more terrorism and even… nuclear war, results from our
government having given businesses, here, a Gold Pass Key to conduct
their dealings in other countries any way that they see fit.
If there’s a ‘pollution problem’ in this country that’s causing
Americans to die due to cancer… our government thinks it’s quite OK to
“solve” those issues by letting that industry move to another
country. By so doing, it will be those people in the other countries
who die, not people, here… When, cigarettes became recognized as… a
killer of millions, the tobacco companies maintained their sales by
sending their products to places like China—where there are no
“warning labels” required. Whenever mining, here, starts killing the
land and sea wildlife due to runoff, those companies find alternative
sites in developing countries that have no restrictions.
The reason that the World Trade Center got brought down, was because
NYC and those tall buildings are (or were) symbols of American
capitalism. The have-not nations of the World—that our government
lets our businesses freely exploit—sees how little we care about their
being treated FAIRLY. When our leaders keep swearing to ‘protect and
defend’ Israel, we are siding with, and selling weapons to, a nation
that kicked Muslims off of their land without fair compensation. And
we are siding with a nation that over-reacts to any, understandable,
minor violence—by killing and maiming more Muslims than was the number
of Jews who were hurt or killed.
So, is it any wonder that many Muslim’s hate the USA? The great
number of Muslims in the world—and their concentration in countries
that American businesses gladly exploit—is setting the stage for
increasing terrorism in the USA and among our allies. But there’s a
most simple solution! CLEAN UP our own act in this country to have
FAIRNESS. Then, put RESTRICTIONS on allowing our businesses to RAPE
(figuratively of course) any other country’s natural resources; labor
pool; environment; or general health and safety. Because the US has
already been doing those bad things, we must begin making generous
concessions. If we’ll do the latter, suddenly, the “motive” for
having our much needed businesses, here, move to other countries, just
isn’t there any more. The “economy”—that is issue number one with the
voters—will start to improve, soon!
Much of the 85% discontent of Americans with the direction that this
country is heading results, directly or indirectly, from a
dissatisfaction with the LAWS that are in place, or which just got
enacted. Simply put, the main cause of our discontent is: We have too
many ill-conceived and downright unfair LAWS! My New Constitution,
when ratified, will MANDATE a review and revote of every single law on
that is on the books! And the vote for passage for all laws, old or
new, becomes: 55 percent! Never again will laws get passed that
aren’t liked by more than half of the people. And 55 percent is only
a ‘probationary’ passage. Unless a law passes by 60% or more, it must
be reviewed and revoted every four years. And, if at any time, one
third of the House, or the President alone, thinks that a
controversial law doesn’t meet with the approval of the Citizens, such
law will be put in a referendum—bypassing House authority, completely.
Most Americans will like this: The House will have a ceiling on the
amount of taxes it can raise. Such will be a percentage of the GNP.
And those taxes will be billed, just once a year, to the STATES based
on a state’s population. (Folks, please don’t worry about ‘poor’
states. There will be compensations to even out most inequities.)
Never again will the Federal government keep financial records on any
citizen! And within several years, all of the taxation in the USA
will be sales taxes only. Food and medicines will be tax exempt. The
combined total of all taxes can’t exceed the ceiling without an
amendment to the New Constitution!
The above tidbits from my New Constitution should hint that I want
such document to be user friendly to the People. But it will be:
“Violate at your own peril.” to those in government. There are more
than a dozen circumstances, spelled out, in which a government
official may be either fired, or charged with a felony. Screwing with
democracy in America will have very serious consequences!
My hints of ‘doom’ are mostly cautionary. I’m not walking around with
‘a sign’ saying: “The World will end…” in so many days. On the
contrary, for the past twelve years, I’ve worked to be sure that the
relationships among nations and peoples can become favorable ones.
Simply by ratifying my New Constitution, things will begin to improve,
here. If US companies want to stay in business, the New Constitution
mandates, that such had better start CARING about how those hard
working people in other nations are being treated, and about how World
resources and the environment are being treated. I hope, in the not
too distant future, when FAIRNESS becomes the watchword throughout the
World, that the threat of terrorism and wars will be out-the-window.
At least THAT is my fervent dream!
For now, that plan “B” of Hillary Clinton won’t harm this country,
unless… Barack Obama becomes President. I’m recommending that Obama
and McCain be ignored. Because voters can surely write, when election
day comes, punch or check where it says “Write-In” and print these
clear letters: “RON PAUL” for President of the United States of
America! Those of you who agree with that wisdom, go to Paul’s WEB
page and make a contribution! Ron said, “… a revolution will take
longer.” Hopefully, my New Constitution will speed things up!

OPTIMISM CAN BE A VERY DANGEROUS THING.
Every two years, voters hope that the latest batch of politicians who
get sent to Washington will finally change things for the better. Two
years ago, enough Democrats were voted into office to finally control
both houses of Congress. The primary motive of many for electing
those Democrats was to end the insane Iraq War. But that war’s end is
nowhere in sight…
I’m old enough, and have a good enough memory, to realize that those
who promise to “change things”, if elected, consistently don’t do so..
Yet, the misguided optimism of Americans causes them to believe
political promises: “If you voters will just elect so-and-so to public
office, everything will magically be OK.” But It just doesn’t happen.
John McCain talks about how he’s against lobbyists, and against
earmarks. But aren’t most lobbyists representing selfish business
interests of one kind or another? And aren’t most businesses being
run by Republicans? The ‘profit motive’ is what built this country;
you can’t fault that. But now, that same motive for profit has made
it OK for big businesses to wrangle and lever the necessary control of
our governments to assure that the decisions which get made will favor
businesses—rather than favoring the disparate Citizens of this once
great country of ours.
I’m a pragmatist. When our governments keep screwing up this country,
year after year, I realized that those politicians aren’t self-
correcting the huge problems. John McCain says that lobbyists are a
problem. Then, why hasn’t Congress—in a single day—simply voted to
outlaw lobbying? My New Constitution will make lobbying—any lobbying—
a crime! The mired processes of government, primarily laid at the
feet of the US Senate, won’t allow positive things to be done.
Congress is this long-on-ceremony, but short-on-results bunch of
egotistical jerks. The few “good” guys who get elected will
eventually become jerks, too, if they stay in office long enough. And
our party-dominated political system virtually assures that incumbents
will be re elected. That assurance is especially true for senators.
Senators have a higher level of “seeming” importance. And because of
their growing seniority, the voters back home see little advantage in
kicking those rascals out. That’s why senators like Robert Byrd can
keep 'fiddling' himself back into office. My New Constitution will
kick out ALL of the rascal senators. So, there is no unfairness
there!
A large percentage of voters in this country aretoobusy to ponder
“the causes” of the mess that we find ourselves in. All they know is
that every two years, a new batch of political hopefuls comes along.
Barack Obama is one of those. His level-pitched, testosterone-driven,
tone of voice has ‘hooked’ enough voters that he will fight, and win,
for them—that he has apparently “locked up” the Democratic nomination
for President. That 85% discontent of Americans with the direction
their country is heading, could be the unifying force that allows the
problems, so rampant in America, to actually be corrected. Our
governments won’t and can’t correct those problems. But the American
People can do so, and in a single day, simply by ratifying my New
Constitution!
Barack Obama has used his masculine tone of voice to snow many would-
have-been-discontented voters. Obama has duped them into believing
that he alone can make this country… well again. If the staid
Democratic Party leaders want Obama to be the candidate, why shouldn’t
the naïve voters go along?
Hillary Clinton has gotten most of the older voters to back her. Of
course there are ‘issues’ that older people have. But with age,
doesn’t wisdom increase? If that’s so, then the wisest voters have
backed Clinton. Ipso facto, the less wise voters must be backing
Obama…
I’ve decried the fact that huge numbers of voters—mostly Obama
supporters—rally behind him… simply because so many in the media have
kept saying that he will win. Essentially, Obama got off to a
surprising early lead. And before Clinton’s forces could rally, Obama
had enough “he’ll win” pundits to keep selling his ultimate victory.
How much ‘character’ do sports fans have who always choose the most
likely winner? The ‘thrill of winning’ is so great that many horse
race fans always bet on “the favorite”. That way, they get to jump-up-
and-down more often than if they bet on the long shots. Even though
the money being won is small, the ego boost is high.
Tuesday night, when Obama got beyond the ‘magic number’ of delegates,
a TV station in my former city of residence, Charlotte, NC, went to
Jillian’s Restaurant and Sports Bar. There, those watching the walls
full of TVs started jumping up and down as if their horse had just
won… the Kentucky Derby. Little did those people realize that their
‘optimism’ for Obama could, effectively, be killing any chance that
the problems with our government will ever be corrected. Obama, and
the Democratic Party (or “Puahtee”, as Donna Brazile pronounces it)
don’t care very much about having a FAIR and pro democracy
government. They—and the corrupt national media—have trounced on
Clinton at every opportunity, simply because she had the audacity to
be the most qualified candidate!
Where I come from, when the country is in dire straits, send in the
most qualified people to address the problem. If your basement is
flooding from a busted pipe, do you call someone who has ZERO
experience to fix it? That’s exactly what about 30% of the American
people are wanting to do: send in Obama to fix our country, drowning
from leaks caused by old piping that’s long beyond simply being
patched. When plumbing, i.e., the processes of government, is really
bad, the only plausible solution is to rip out the old piping, and put
in a better-designed and more durable system. In the most simple
terms, that is what my New Constitution would be.
I will never be peddling my nation-saving document to Barack Obama,
nor to John McCain. Those men havetoomany corrupt influences
pulling their strings. I would be willing to have Hillary Clinton be
one of my intermediaries with the American people. But it’s being
hinted that she is about to bed-down with the enemy… If that happens,
it will underscore how unimportant principles and justice are in the
cultures of Washington. For elected officials, the most important
thing is being on the… winning side. Then, they can be jubilant
looking down on the 50% or so who are losers. But the 50% losers due
to government screw-ups happen to be deserving Americans—like you or
me. A government that has political parties as intermediaries with
the people can never do what is right for all, or most Americans, at
the same time. But my New Constitution will BAN political parties!
So, decisions can begin to be made that are optimum for most
Americans.
As she has for so long been urged to do, Clinton may try to “unify”
the Democratic Party by throwing her support behind Obama. But she
doesn’t speak for her supporters! Polls show that over 2/3rds of
those will NEVER vote for Obama. Clinton has the ‘small town’ votes
of working class men and women. And Obama has no hope of winning in
November without those key votes!
In this final day before her “concession and etc.” to Obama, Clinton
should consider whether she wants to, effectively, close-the-door on
correcting the problems in Washington with a long overdue New
Constitution. She must consider whether she wishes to lock in the
same-old, same-old… good-things-will-happen-AFTER-the-next-election
optimism—that would likely sealing the not-so-rosy fate of the USA.
Whether we succumb to terrorists attacks, or to the Armageddon of
nuclear war, failing to act appropriately—when a workable solution is
at hand—is the most grievous failure of all.
As I’ve said more than once, Barack Obama is the single greatest
threat to the survival of the USA, and perhaps to the survival of the
entire world. But if we will just reject him, and STOP our group-
again-group, party-against-party, and class-against-class fights,
those attitudes of fairness—that ONLY a functioning DEMOCRACY can
assure—will give this country hope. Unless we improve our image in
third-world countries, and others, the clock-to-our-doom will continue
to tick.
Itoohave optimism. Why else would I have spent twelve years writing
a New Constitution. Last Tuesday night Hillary Clinton smiled when
she exclaimed: “This is an important day for democracy!” Americans
everywhere, hope and pray that DEMOCRACY can get established, once and
for all, in this country. Right now, that responsibility is resting
on the shoulders of Hillary Rodham Clinton.
