Seasons caused by an elliptical orbit would effect
the entire globe equally, so there wouldn't be a
northern versus southern hemisphere alternation.
Greg,
That is only proof that the shift from North to South
is caused by the tilt.
Please think about the rotation only even at the plane
It is the main factor of the seasonal change itself
(no tilt would be needed to cause a seasonal change
of some sort.)
the tilt does effect the lengths and types of changes yes.
But the tilt is not the cause for the seasons to occur at all
(ignoring the change from north to south and pretending no
tilt exists)
Think. instead of just looking at more printed facts about the tilt.
Remove the tilt and think for yourself with just an eliptical orbit.
Would such alone cause a seasonal change.
YES! not the exact same as ours of course because we have
the tilt causing the shifting of seasons from North to South.
but simply, the tilt is not the seasonal changes themselves cause
only the swapover to the other hemishepere.
Ignore the tilt and think is all I can really say.
While you're at it, calculate the required eccentricity
of the elliptical orbit that could result in seasons
as extreme as we currently experience.
Like I said,it would not be the extreme change we get now
if not for the tilt. but it would seasonally change still without
a tilt so the cause for seasonal changes is not actually the
tilt only like most people think.
You don't see that?
