Whenever I hear reports about global warming being a result of mankind
activities, I'm a bit surprised based on what evidence this assertion is based
on.
My understanding is, that we are observing the weather for only a few years
now. So we know about CO2 data maybe 50 years if not less. Now the supposed
evidence, as I understand it, is that we are looking back thousands of years,
even millions.
Now what puzzles me is, that this old statistics, only shows rather long
periods. The older the data is, the less accurate it is. So if we go back,
let's say one million years, and analyze the data, then I can not believe that
you can read it with such a precision of a 50 year resolution. To me this
looks like comparing apples with oranges. Of course it makes sense to blame
mankind on it, because goverments now start to charge extra taxes, and that's
what this is all about. Taxes, covered as environmental activities.
I didn't really address your question. The "Hockey stick" chart from
Mann has caused a great deal of confusion. Mostly because he
eliminated past warming periods. The National Academy of Sciences
published a report refuting this claim. Mann is still at it, Hockey
Stick and all.
Here is another source of data from a peer-reviewed recent paper:
Loehle, C. and J.H. McCulloch. 2008. Correction to: A 2000-year global
temperature reconstruction based on non-tree ring proxies. Energy and
Environment, 19, 93-100.

Pay special attention to figure 3.
BTW, Dr. Sam Wormley is one of, if not the, smartest guy posting on
sci.physics. So pay attention to his pointers. However, we do read
the tea leaves differently on AGW.
