It is very well understood what is happening there. There is no
way these chips could have been developed without clear
understanding of how electrons travel in semi conductors.

   But, that's not how the chips work, though. Chips work one the
   principle do cranks like Physicists, and Mathematricians know how
   Shannon Information Theory, DMA,  Cache, I/O, Hard Disks,
   Laser Disks, Assemblers, Compilers, Cross Compilers,
Computer Virus work,
   Email, Telnet, Algebra, and Spam Work, not how
   moronic things like Quantum Mechanics works.

I doubt that physicists in general know how the chips work,
but engineers who conceive them certainly do and they
definitely don't need QM to do it despite the general
opinion in physics circles.

As for their existence, if you still have one of these cathode ray
monitors (not flat panels) on your computer, you are right now
looking at the proof of their existence since it is a beam of
electrons
that very precisely hoses every point of every line at the back of
the
screen you are looking at right now.

Do a little search on how cathode ray tubes work and you will
have your proof.
