You've gotta be kidding, Potter! GTR is one of the most successful
theories to date. In more than 90 years, there has not been a
prediction of GTR that's been contradicted by an observation.
Potter has a different measure of "successful" than most folks. To
him, "successful" means that he can buy something at Target that is
based on its principles.
Of course, you CAN buy a GPS unit at Target that IS based on its
principles.
Potter then says that he could have built the GPS system without using
those principles, simply by making an ad-hoc correction to the GPS
clocks.
Of course, you can then ask why on earth would you make an ad-hoc
correction when a correction based on physical principles is
available.
At this point, Potter calls you a bigot.
It is interesting to see that as usual
"PD" focuses on the messenger,
rather than address the message
in a rational, intelligent, moral way.
But "PD" did make a good point in his personal attack
when he pointed out that whereas I demand
efficiency, productivity, and things that
make life better for me and mankind
from the models of reality
that I use, support and promote,
some people like "PD"
prefer models that predict things beyond
man's capacity to ever experience in time and space,
like the beginning and end of the universe,
black holes, time travel, warping through space,
and knowing the mind of God.
But it was interesting to see that "PD"
promoted the idea of assigning constants
to favorite models, rather than considering a constant
an offset that can be attributed to any model.
Note for example,
that although Galileo discovered that acceleration
affected the frequency of oscillators centuries ago,
and that England sent ships all over the world
with standard oscillators (Pendulums)
and that Newton used the data to compute
the shape of the Earth, the mass of the Moon,
and tides all over the world,
and although "PD" is unable to use his
devoted, cultist model to compute even one tide,
that he prefers to call the Galileo Effect
the "Relativity Effect" and rather than simply use
a constant and not attribute credit to the founder
nor to interlopers, just offset a constant with
a number and let God sort it out.
