Sammy, the so-called relativistic correction term
has to do with corrections for the eccentricity of the satellites orbits,
the shape of the Earth, etc.

shift of clocks in orbit is corrected downward in frequency by 446.47 parts
in 10^12. This is a combination of five different sources of relativistic

Bluster on, Potter, bluster some more! Froth at the mouth! Whatever!

It is sad to see that Sam Wormley
confuses oscillators with clocks.

No doubt, the frequency output frequency of the oscillators in the satellites
are adjusted to compensate for the affect of acceleration on oscillators,
an effect that Galileo discovered centuries ago,

an effect that motivated England to send ships
all over the world with standard oscillators (Pendulums)
to measure the swings from dawn to dawn,

and Newton used this data to compute the
shape of the Earth and the tides in many places.

Regarding Sammy assertion that the clocks
in the satellites are offset to compensate for "Relativity",

it appears that Sammy doesn't know that the GPS clocks
are devices that accumulate the counts of the
oscillator time units fed into them,

and that after a satellite is put in orbit
and the oscillators and electronics have a chance to settle down,
that the GPS controllers set the accumulator (Clock) in the satellite
to agree with the master GPS clock,
and thereafter they let the onboard oscillator and accumulator do their thing
-- oscillate and accumulate,,

and that GPS control monitors what the satellite
accumulators accumulate, and periodically
upload a message to each satellite telling it
what the difference is between their accumulator,
and what the difference in the frequency is between
the satellites oscillator and the master oscillator,

and that the satellites transmit this information
to receivers so that receivers will know how much
to adjust each satellite accumulator count to agree with the
master accumulator count (Master Clock),

and to use the difference in frequency (Drift)
to anticipate how the accumulator
compares to the master accumulator now,
and at some future time.

The GPS engineers are too smart to continuously
adjust the onboard accumulators and oscillators
in the satellites, as this would lead to many errors
than occasionally letting the satellites and the GPS users
know the status of the oscillators and accumulators.

Sammy is right,
when he notes that if a satellite's orbit is eccentric,
that the acceleration of the on board oscillators experience varies,
and must be taken into account in order to obtain the
most accurate position,

but as GPS receivers know the orbital data,
and they know how much altitude affects oscillators,
they can make this tiny adjustment
if they have the time and computing power.
( A GPS controlled missile may not have the time,
and a cheap or low power consumption receiver
may not have the computing power.)

Considering that none of the General Relativity Gurus or Cultists
seem to be able to use General Relativity to compute a few tides,
as Newton did centuries ago, perhaps one of them will
compute how much the frequencies of the satellites oscillators
are affect by the nominal eccentricity using Generla Relativity.

Regarding Sammy's boilerplate comment about "bluster" and "froth",
as can be seen from our posts, I "bluster"
when I don't have the time to compress the topic into a few words,
and Sammy "froths" when I expose his ignorance.
