the 40 foot waterfall at the bottom of union lake is the biggest gold
placer in seattle.
as it flows from lake to lake and once was a river.

Just a thought if all the gold flakes and lighter nuggets are getting
washed down rivers over thousands of years wouldnt the best place to
find gold be on the beach at a river mouth?
Roy

No; the best place is dissolved in sea water, you are guaranteed to
find it.
Take all you want, nobody will mind. Mind you, it may cost you more
than you can get selling the gold.
Heh Heh yes I know all about how much (or little) gold is dissolved in
sea-water. I was thinking more in terms of something like a clay or
granite river bed at the mouth of a river that has been covered with
sand , soil etc and maybe changed course a little. Any gold washed down
could possibly be trapped in indentations or crevices in the old river
bed, covered by a few feet of sand/silt. Just seems logical to me?
Roy

Seems logical to me too. Now all you need do is get to it before anyone
else did in 1848. Maybe a time machine will help.

Ah! too late...story of my life I am afraid. Seriously, there must be
other places albeit with smaller quantities. I am not looking to become
rich this way, its just a bit of harmless fun for weekends out and about.
I wish I had thought of this when I went to Australia for 4 weeks -
apparently Australia is absolutely littered with gold. I am off to
Scotland with my wife next month. A bit of prospecting might be
interesting. You never know until you try.

If you can see the top of Ben Nevis it is going to rain.

If you can't, it is. Take a McIntosh, buy your wife a brolly
and some wellies.
The Scots will be happy to take your baubies.
