Potter, there is no Linux built on top of DOS.
For Christ sakes do a bit of self education before you spew!

which is built on top of an OS,
which is built on top of a BIOS,
which is mapped to hardware.

I am surprised to see that my pal Sammy,
asserts that Linux has no DISK OPERATING SYSTEM.

Nice attempt at a save, Potter! Unfortunately your concepts
and history of computers is VERY FLAWED.

It is interesting to see that Sam Wormley,
who was a stress analysis grunt,

makes the editorial comment that a guy
who had responsible, technical positions with three computer
companies,
( Burroughs, Bendix and Hewlett Packard),

Too bad you don't really know how computers work, Potter.
That is so sad!

Considering that you are "so sad" Sammy,
why don't you explain "how computers work" so that folks can benefit
from
how a stress analysis grunt views "how computers work"
compared to how a person who has been involved with all kinds of
computers for fifty years perceives "how computers work"?

I think it's pretty funny that you think I ever did stress
analysis, Potter. I made plenty of stress measurements and
analyzed my data, but I never did what you term "stress analysis
grunt work" more common in the engineering areas.

I might mention to my pal Sammy, that mechanical computers,
differential
analyzers, analog computers,
optical computers, and the various kinds of digital computers all work
differently, so I suggest that you start with something simple like a
differential analyzer.

You've already shown your ignorance, Potter. Further illumination by
me is not required.

Sammy,
considering that you stress analysis grunts assert
that us folks who have been involved with computers for many years
are ignorant of "how computers work"

why don't you educate the folks who have wasted many years
studying and working with computers

and show them that stress analysis grunts
know more about "how computers work"
than folks who have been involved with all kinds of
computers for fifty years perceives "how computers work"?

It has been my experience that folks involved with computers
are always willing to look at new and better ways of doing things,
and I am sure you will find a willing audience in explaining why
you stress analysis grunts know more about computers.

How do you like your Microsoft Outlook Express, Potter?

My pal Sammy raises a good point.
Outlook Express is a very powerful and useful program.

I use Outlook Express for many things,
including creating, maintaining, editing and using
data bases such as sets of URLs,
data on subjects I am interested in,
posters that I interact with, interesting posts, etc.

I have scores of URL categories such as audio, video, news, etc.
and it is much easier to edit, maintain and use the URLs from Outlook
Express than it is from bookmarks and the various bookmark programs.

For example, if I am looking for a shareware program to do a particular job,
I open my "shareware" post, scan the list, select one I think will do the
job, and drag the URL into my browser,
and the page instantly loads.

I also use Outlook Express to accumulate, edit and save
OFFLINE information to PDF files.

I mark and drag data from news and web articles,
onto new and old posts,
and save the posts, not to SEND,
but to a folder that indicates the information category.

and when I have accumulated a set of posts,
I use ABC Amber Outlook Express to create a PDF
that contains all of the information.

If I intend to read the information using my
MP3/MP4/Game Player/Text Reader gadget,
I convert the PDF file to a TXT file.
( None of my portable gadgets do a decent job with PDF.)

Note that you can save text and graphics to a Outlook Express post,
and convert the post or a set of posts to a PDF file,
or if you intend to read the data on your MP4 gadget,
you can save the data as TXT files.

Can you think of a better way to assemble and edit
and create PDF and TXT file from lot of data,
that is better than using Outlook Express Sammy?

Also note that when you maintain sets of databases in Outlook Express
you can quickly find the information using the Outlook Express "FIND"
feature.

And when you "find" the information you can read it,
copy it, or drag it around to you Browser or other Windows programs.

I also drag useful and interesting posts into a Outlook Express folder.

I just searched my "Interesting, useful and informative folders Sammy,
I got a lot of hits for Relf, Hanson, Poe, Uncle Al, Green, frazir, Androcles,
Kolker, and PD but didn't find any of your posts or Dork's posts there.

Thanks for calling attention to the power of Outlook Express Sammy.

How do stress analysis grunts
who don't have comprehensive computer backgrounds
do these things Sammy?
