I'm sure you folks have seen how much damage is being done by these

Damage? I see no damage. Spam is not damage per se. It only becomes
damaging if you choose to let it.
Don't let it get under your skin. Don't open anything with a
suspicious subject line.
Never click on a link in a Usenet post.
If you take a walk over to sci.physics.electromag you'll see that it's
being swamped with ads.
So is your average TV 'newscast' or daily newspaper.
Ask any regular reader of the New York Times how many of its 100+
pages they actually read every day.
As a general rule I dislike government sticking their nose into our
personal lives. But our personal lives are being disrupted by these
loathsome beings who spam a 10,000 people because they know one of
them will be stupid enough to buy what they're selling. So in this
case I'm for Internet regulation, i.e. to get rid of spaming us. Then
there are assholes like Retic around who misuse the interent as well
as harass people who they don't like.
So you want the Usenet policed by Gestapo?
So - Who of you don't mind all this spam in the newsgroups? Take a
walk over to sci.physics.electromag first to see the extent at which
its intruding into our discussions. I might be alone in this feeling,
I don't know. I'm merely curious to see who else is getting pissed off
at all these scumbags spam-bombing us so that they can make a dollar
for every million people they irritate.
Your suggestion for infringement on the freedom and anarchy of the
Usenet is especially distasteful to me.
Thanks for your opinions
You're lucky I have withheld my opinions of you as a person, Neo-
Fascist.
