I think they're a branch of the Department Of Silly Names now. It might,
however, be worth contacting the Treasury... wasn't the SS a part of
them until recently? Files have a habit of not moving unless they have
to, and "details of un-needed security on a guy dead forty years" is
rarely considered to be of critical operational importance. Plus, the
Treasury probably has more space for that kind of thing.

[As an aside, my understanding of FOI legislation in the US is that the
duty to disclose doesn't cover "we don't have it, but this guy does" -
so it is worth trying all relevant departments]
