Q: For Sy Liebergot (Yeah, it's new safe CT-free topic fodder!)

....I'm currently reading Krantz' autobiography, and right around the
chapters dealing with the A9 mission, he briefly discusses a sim that
was run where the SimSup threw an SM fuel leak in the mix during
ascent, and the Flight Controllers had to determine whether to abort
to orbit or go Mode III - which, if I understand correctly, is using
the RCS to get away from whatever's left of the S-5 stack and then
jettison the SM so the CM can reenter. There's apparently some
miscommunications between GNC and Retro, so Krantz makes the call
knowing time is short, However, his timing is still off, and the CM
comes down in the Atlas Mountains. Of course, the Atlas range is about
14,000', while the chutes don't deploy until about 4,000' below that,
so...
....The question for Sy is this: were there any other sim'd aborts
where the results were as spectacularly fatal and/or so absurd that
you had to laugh about it after you got over the shock of how bad it
would have been had it been real? Such as landing the CM in Mount
Pinatubo, or smack in the middle of the Rose Bowl?
